Out of the collection. Along with colleagues Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures in post-war American design. Although his main interest was in textile design, Girard was also admired for his works of graphic art and for the design of furniture, exhibition spaces and furnishings. Girard introduced into 20th century design a sensual playfulness that was completely absent from the austere aesthetics of classic modernism. Printed tablecloths were created by Alexander Girard in 1961 for the Textiles & Objects shop (T&O) in New York City. Size: diameter 170 cm
