The Parentesi by Flos is a suspension lamp with direct light, designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù, in production since 1971. This sophisticated and functional pendant lamp is the result of careful subtraction work, which is manifested through a surprising formal minimalism. And that’s what made her an icon of Italian industrial design. Initially conceived by Pio Manzù before his death (1969), this lamp was reformulated by Achille Castiglioni in 1970, and then distributed by Flos the following year. The superfluous is eliminated, the elements are minimized: the rod is replaced with a metal rope anchored to the floor and ceiling, on which flows a steel tube in the form of brackets, from which the lamp is named. This choice is not aesthetic, but well finalized: with simplicity you can move the lamp with a slight pressure of the hand. This allows you to orient and play with the light at will, creating effects always different.
