The Falkland lamp was designed by Bruno Munari for Danese in 1964. It is a suspension lamp made of aluminium and elastic mesh: the idea was inspired by Munari’s trip to Japan, where the designer was fascinated by the simplicity and functionality of paper lamps, which only take on their shape when hung.
In Munari’s design, a series of metal rings of different diameters stretch the tubular mesh, giving the lamp its characteristic shape, while an aluminium reflector at the top holds the light source. The result is a lamp that offers good quality diffused light.
