DAR Eames Plastic Armchair is the updated version of one of the models of Fiberglass chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames for the international competition “Low-Cost Furniture Design” of MoMa, held in 1948 to meet the needs of low-cost furnishings. Fiberglass chairs, of which the Eames Plastic Armchairs by Vitra are the technically up-to-date heirs, were the first models made of plastics on an industrial scale, available in different colours and with different structures at the base: one of these chairs was the DAR, the seat with the characteristic Eiffel Tower base. A classic of modernism, combining structural strength, industrial design and lightness of lines, DAR is a fascinating piece of design history, but above all it is a comfortable armchair, elegant and full of character.
