Artist biography:
Tiziano Finazzi was born in Chiuduno in 1952. He graduated in painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts under Domenico Purificato in 1977, presenting a thesis on the work of Mario Schifano. After the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, the artistic ambition for Tiziano Finazzi was to develop a personal, heartfelt language able to go beyond the abstract-conceptual language of the new avant-gardes, also by returning to traditional painting materials and techniques.
The cultural dimension of arte povera, or of certain experimentalism, could only partially satisfy a poetics rooted more in movements as a “Currente” rather than the ‘isms’ of the early 20th century.
The cultural climate in which Finazzi grew was the radical one of the 1970s in which the artistic avant-gardes were moving within a dramatic framework, marked by an unprecedented “social anguish” determined by an institutional, academic and religious set-up that was unable to provide adequate answers to the complexity of the transformation taking place: a social anguish that reached its climax with the assassination of Aldo Moro.
