Arne Jacobsen designed this device for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1957. The table lamp produces a pleasant light directed downwards with the inner screen painted white. The screen can be tilted to adjust the light distribution. The AJ family of lamps is considered the design for which Jacobsen is famous worldwide. In addition to the AJ Table, the AJ family also included a small table lamp, a floor lamp, a wall lamp and a table-mounted lamp that were located at the SAS Royal Hotel after its inauguration in 1960.The clean and particular shape of the AJ lamp with its immaculate light could be seen throughout the hotel in copper and stainless steel versions. Together with the AJ Royal suspension, the AJ lamp was part of the entire design concept created by Jacobsen for the hotel. He practically designed it himself. The parallels between the straight lines and the combination of straight and curved corners in the design of the AJ lamp are also visible in the geometric contours of its buildings.
