New exhibition formats, a homage to Leonardo da Vinci and the opening with a concert by Maestro Riccardo Chailly are the most notable new features of the 58th Salone del Mobile, the international furniture show presented in Milan today which will be held from 9 to 14 April in the pavilions of Fiera Milano in Rho. After the new direction unveiled in the 2018 Manifesto, the Salone once again focuses its attention on the centrality of Milan and the creative capacity of its business network.
The Salone del Mobile has also chosen to celebrate Leonardo at the Conca dell’Incoronata, in the heart of Milan, with Acqua, an installation dedicated to his studies on water. This year the Salone, which has signed a 3-year agreement with the Teatro alla Scala Foundation, will open with a major concert: Maestro Riccardo Chailly will conduct the Semiramide Overture and William Tell by Gioachino Rossini.
There were positive signs for the furniture macro-system in 2018 from both the domestic market, with a 3.1% increase in production for the local market compared with 2017, and in terms of exports, which remained positive: in the luxury sector Italian businesses held the biggest share in all markets. The next edition sees the return of biennials Euroluce and Workplace3.0., the latter with a new exhibition format, to showcase the evolution of the concept of the working environment where increasing space is dedicated to sharing and the overlap with other daily activities. Meanwhile, there will be around 550 protagonists at the 22nd SaloneSatellite. This year’s theme: “Food as a Design Object”.
