The perfect refuge

Can mountain refuges really boast all the comfort, beauty and functionality of home? They certainly can. This charming house is the proof of the pudding, a sophisticated and welcoming refuge in the wonderful setting of the Engadina Alps. An interesting project developed by the Longaretti Serena architects in collaboration with Zenucchi Design Code, which supplied furniture and finishes and provided support and technical consultancy for the design of the interiors.

“The owners, whose first home we also furnished – comment the Zenucchi interior designers – wanted a warm and comfortable house, typical features of mountain residences, but with a contemporary feel that respects their way of life”. When designing the house, Longaretti shaped the composition of the rooms and, on the basis of the owners’ requests, took all the various decisions that led to the creation of this mountain refuge. Some spaces in the house were already present – the kitchen and the bathrooms – and the work focused on creating atmospheres for the daytime area and the bedrooms with custom solutions and ideas that also encompassed the curtains, linen and lighting. The centrepiece of the day area is the fireplace, designed ad hoc to ensure its seamless integration with the furnishings and surroundings. Some designer pieces – the Vitra chairs, the Flos pendant lamps – are accompanied by complementary custom-made elements like the sculpted solid wood table, an elegant and highly original presence in the daytime area.

There are also interior design solutions in the night-time area designed to make mountain life even more comfortable. These include the hand-painted panels on the walls of the bedrooms which also act as headboards for the extremely comfortable box spring beds. An interior design project that combines elegance and comfort while conserving the unique charm typically associated with mountain homes.
