In the suburbs of Milan, an innovative and classy renovation of a villa harmonizes indoor and outdoor spaces.
Long-time customers of Zenucchi Design Code, the owners of a villa outside Milan, entrusted the expert team of interior designers with the complete and extremely innovative makeover of their home. Mainly seeking extensive spatiality and contemporary compositional simplicity, the renovation transformed both the interiors and the exteriors. The change resulted in the complete renewal of furniture, fabrics, and lighting. Spread over multiple levels, the villa was first reorganized in its spaces: by making the most of the available surface, the interiors were divided by various furnishing elements, such as kitchen columns, special wainscoting, or pivot doors, rather than ordinary partition walls. The bright and airy living area is located on the lower floor, while the sleeping area upstairs houses the bedrooms. The nodal point and the unifying element of the floors is the sinuous design staircase: custom-made and cantilevered to minimize its volume, with wooden steps and an iron railing, it represents an important scenic and directional feature.
The stairs the heart of the house
The refined living area, boasting a minimalist style with selected designer furniture such as the blue sideboard by Cassina, is the centre of conviviality and hospitality. It is connected, through a shared wooden-clad container volume outlined with light bars, to the adjacent kitchen space. The latter includes an area defined by a wall composition with glass doors and a wine cellar, but also a functional part with a central island with a marble top. Upstairs, the master bedroom stands out with a spacious walk-in closet, an elegant custom-designed bathroom, and warm parquet flooring.
The predominant use of stoneware flooring, both on the terrace and in the garden and poolside, serves as a unifying element between indoor and outdoor spaces. Finally, the large windows surrounding the house allow for continuous interaction between the interiors and the green outdoor landscape.
