A fusion of tradition and modernity

On the outside, the house shows a traditional layout where some of the details bring to mind the typical farmhouses of Lombardy: the portico, the paving and the position with the ends facing east-west. The structure was built by Baitelli Costruzioni that managed all the works: from the demolition of the old building to the construction of the new one. As the architect explains, the project contemplates an interior design that deviates in full from tradition as far as the logical distribution of the spaces is concerned. In fact, the house has a large living area, which, located on the ground floor, receives light from the portico. An upper level overlooks the living room and leads to the sleeping area, separating the two functional areas of the house. In this way, the large space on the ground floor is not impacted. Many of the collections and antiques that bring the house to life are used in the basement and wine cellar. The desire to fuse tradition and modernity is also evident in the choice of materials. For the indoor and outdoor flooring, supplied and laid by Guadadiello srl, the choice is clear and of great effect: aged Trani marble in the portico, recycled oak that becomes a delicate leitmotif throughout the house, and recycled terracotta in the basement and wine cellar. The owners’ passion for unique and hard-to-find objects is demonstrated, for example, in the selection of curtains throughout the house: French fabrics enriched with inlays and embroidery, purchased from Novecento in Forte dei Marmi, that also supplied the splendid linen and lace cushions in the master bedroom. The curtain rods are supplied by Apostoli Interior, from which the delicate linen under-curtain for the kitchen is also sourced. In the lounge, great elegance for the soft natural silk over-curtain in combination with the handloom woven natural linen under-curtain. The rod is made of hand-whitewashed iron with a lightly padded curtain stopper: all by Tappezzeria Gatti.

The tradition of a style table or chandelier with pendants

The three-seater and two-seater sofas along with the footstool, in 100% cotton with natural rubber padding, are also from the same company. Tradition also in some classy lighting touches: for example, the lampshades by Click Paralumi, handmade to measure, from the frame to the fan, by the craftsmen of the company from Brescia. The Botticino marble fireplaces crafted and made by Claudio Zambelli, owner of Barbacan, capture the attention. One takes pride of place in the tavern, while the other is installed in a more drawing-room like, convivial space. All the workmanship and finishes are by the Brescian artist. Moving into the kitchen, you can see how well the modernity of Varenna’s Alea kitchen embraces the tradition of a style table or a chandelier with pendants. The surfaces of the kitchen, glossy lacquered with a travertine marble top supplied by Zenucchi Design Code, enhance the brightness of the room, while the technology of the appliances are branded Neff. For the bathroom located in the sleeping area, we have opted for the excellence of major brands: the bathroom furniture is the Manhattan collection by Karol, elegant and with formal rigour; the Philippe Starck bathtub by Duravit, great design for a pure form, is based on the geometry of the oval and rises to become the star of the bathroom; the Monò Sospesa Flaminia sanitary ware series is combined with the Rettangolo XL by Gessi and the X-Steel towel warmers by Tubes. Big names all supplied by S.T.I.P. and installed by Idraulica Salamini Ennio, that also installed the air conditioning and underfloor heating system, as well as the solar panelling system.
