Living with art

How is modern living expressed through interior design? Design, functionality, uniqueness, quality materials and beauty are some of the key words that guide today’s home designs. And if the home owner is an art lover and a collector of original design pieces, then the job of the architect and the interior designers is to find a way to combine the need for functionality with the aesthetics of the art. This is just what architect Daniela Mannucci did in collaboration with the team at Zenucchi Design Code.

The entrance hall is welcoming, a setting suggestive of a country scene created through a series of made-to-measure wall and door panels in walnut veneer. Coming into the living area, the sitting room and dining area flow around a sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro, a unique piece of Italian design, the Ciclotte exhibited at Milan’s Museo del Design, and a selection of original paintings. Here the Minotti sofa in natural leather perfectly complements the style of the space, distinguished by panels in concrete resin and a very striking fireplace feature.

Wood and resin are in constant dialogue in all areas of the house, creating a delicate contrast that elicits an emotional response to the design. The texture and simplicity of the resin are also to be found in the sleeping zone, in particular in the custom-designed bathroom complete with

spa bath and sauna. This house represents the essence of modern living. With its delicate minimalism, it protects and offsets its treasures of Italian art and design.

This section of the house tells the story of the materials at the heart of its design: wood and resin. In the house we also find numerous original paintings, sculptures and pieces of furniture belonging to the owners’ private collection, including Ciclotte, the famous bicycle sculpture. On the back wall is a Saphir Giant woodburning stove with smoke damper by Ruegg (Zenucchi Design Code).

The sitting room features solutions that combine creativity with functionality: the sliding doors by Rimadesio create a dialogue between the spaces, creating the perfect setting (Zenucchi Design Code).

A noteworthy detail in the kitchen are the cabinets finished with wooden folding doors supplied by the Zenucchi Design Code team. The kitchen is by Artex di Varenna and comprises a Corian® worksurface and a walnut peninsula. The sliding doors are by Rimadesio, while the Papilio chairs are by B&B Italia.

Architect Daniela Mannucci has curated the entire project of made-to-measure walnut veneer walls and doors, using solid wood and smooth veneer with a vertical slat design and handles by Lama di Olivari. Oikos personalised security doors with walnut panelling match the walls.
