Retro atmospheres with modern touches in this flat in a Liberty style villa at the foot of Bergamo Alta.

The large house is spread over two floors: a ground floor where the garage offers direct access to the flat, a laundry area, the bedrooms of the owner’s two daughters, a study and a bathroom. An internal staircase leads up to the upper main floor, which has an important independent entrance from which the various rooms branch off, distributed according to the typical arrangement of the Art Nouveau period. A corridor accompanies the visitor to the main reception room, the living room, characterised by a typically long and narrow floor plan that is very bright and optically divided into two zones by the bright tones of the furnishings: the bright blue of the velvet upholstery of two antique armchairs to create a relaxing area with a charming and intimate atmosphere which the presence of the fireplace and a baby grand piano help to create; instead, lilac reigns supreme in the guest reception area where two armchairs by Citterio stand out in the general white, with the purity of their forms, surrounded by large windows. The master area is on the same floor: consisting of a bedroom with sober and elegant tones, a walk-in wardrobe and a personal bathroom, chosen from the Boffi range for its sophisticated minimalism.

The sober elegance of simplicity.

The same principle was decisive in the choice of the kitchen, also designed by Boffi in a linear style to look more like a dining room than a functional room where food is prepared. On the left, a fully recessed white pantry houses the appliances, while the functional part of the sink and hob comprises a horizontal walnut cabinet that, in its elegance, is more reminiscent of a modern sideboard than a kitchen: the handles concealed in the cut-out of the horizontal drawers and the white Corian worktop with its minimal thickness contribute to the effect. The washbasin made of the same material as the countertop blends into the absolute white, without any joints or gaps, like a natural concave. There are no wall units, except for a single volume that conceals the extractor hood for the hob below. The table by Saarinen and the armchairs by Porro complete the scene with elegant restraint. Minimalism and contemporary taste with a keen eye for the customisation of rooms, as is clear in the bedroom area of the owner’s daughters, each with their own colours, lilac or acid green and cream, with a pleasant succession of geometric storage elements, shelves, which, depending on their thickness, have different functions as in the case of the desk top. Elegant, relaxing and personal atmospheres are what Zenucchi has created in this flat, where nothing is too much, everything is taken care of and the furnishing elements lend the home the sober elegance of simplicity.
