A House That House

The quality of life also depends on the space one lives in. Thats why a young couple chose this solution: to live on the second and top floor of a period building in Val Camonica.

The house is located in the old town centre, with its narrow streets and buildings of incomparable charm. Not just any old house to stay in, but that house, their house, as the place chosen to enjoy time after work. And with the aim of building a place that would suit their personalities, the owners of the property turned to the professionalism of Zenucchi Arredamento to realise their dreams. It is a small flat that “almost touches the sky”, a cosy home, comprising two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen-living room. The building dates back to the 18th century and was in need of renovation. No major work was carried on the building’s statics but the roof had to be completely replaced. In this regard, the designers preserved the existing type of roof, re-proposing a timber roof frame. All the walls were insulated with plasterboard panels with horizontal shadowline cutting at the base that acts as a classic skirting board.

Zenucchi wanted to give this small flat the sense of being larger

Zenucchi wanted to give this small flat the sense of being larger as well as the light it lacked. And it succeeded in its intent through impeccable spatial division, perfect colour schemes and contemporary design pieces. The inimitable sign of the house, deliberately intended as a decorative element, is the fireplace wall, made of weathered, burnished brass slabs, laid in chequerboard fashion. The rest of the envelope is white: the painted wooden ceiling, resin floors and plaster walls. The curtains are also white and form another wall with different materiality. But this house is by no means minimalist. The design and furniture choices transformed the existing flat into an exciting and imaginative contemporary space. The brass backdrop, the gold carpet and Cassina’s LC1 chairs in calf hair lent a fascinating “textured” atmosphere. These are just some of the elegant details that contribute to the unique atmosphere of this environment. All the rest of the decor expresses the sophisticated simplicity of a sober but characterful home that has no intention to flaunt its worth. An example of this is Davide Groppi’s use of lights that run silently to punctuate the walls. Some time passed between the proposal by Zenucchi of the invaluable and sophisticated details, their scrutiny by the customers before finalising the project, and the final design solution. Every choice had to be the best, “justified”, because that house would become their home.
