You might think that it has sprouted out like the vine variety of fine champagne. In a way, it did. The rooms have come together and improved gradually. Once the walls were ready and the owners had chosen the coverings, Zenucchi Design Code emphasised its “perlage” in accordance with inspiring roots and sprouts. The chosen materials, light fixtures, colours, and furnishings have given the two levels the quality of a glass of fine wine. Light colours prevail, as demonstrated by the transparency of the white walls alternating between concave and convex and the sandy oak parquet flooring. But it’s in the living area that this bubbly personality comes out in all its glory. A vast array of colours explode next to the earthy browns of the solid walnut wood strip tiles on the exclusive staircase wall and the sheet metal handrail. There’s the platinum of the P22 armchair by Patrick Norguet (2013, Cassina), the sugar grey of the Rodolfo Dordoni sofa (Minotti), the dark denim of the open wall unit (Poliform), the lighter shade of the rug, and the bronze of the Ferro sheet metal table by Piero Lissoni (1994, Porro). Then, the boost of vibrancy with the legendary burgundy 412 CAB Bulgarian leather chairs by Mario Bellini (1977, Cassina), two carmine red ceramic dishes, a few Fauvist painting, and then, the star of the show, Marcel Wanders’ Big Shadow lamp (1998, Cappellini).

You can’t help being attracted to these red kisses on the wall. The light of the Big Shadow lamp reaches the kitchen, which is separated by two glass sliding walls. The two-colour Varenna kitchen is rigorous and a hidden yin and yang. The hob on the central counter and the pantry are lacquered in matte quartz, while the countertop and sink area are made of anthracite grey stone. The handmade pull-out table features solid oak beams held by double dovetail anchors, and is paired with the timeless Plastic Armchair DAW by Charles & Ray Eames (1950, Vitra). Yin and yang are also balanced in the master bedroom and the bathroom with vibrant structures rather than colours. In the bedroom, the Shin bed by Piero Lissoni (Porro) features a black leather headboard and a satin steel tubular frame. Behind it, the blond oak wall creates a contrast with the snow white wall lining. The rest, including the Artik walk-in wardrobe (Poliform) is extremely minimalist. Cheers.
