La Corsa – works by Angelo Zanella, on display in Brescia for the Mille Miglia

From 11 June until 9 July, on the occasion of the Mille Miglia, the Zenucchi Design Code showroom in Brescia will host the exhibition“La Corsa – works by Angelo Zanella”.

After exhibiting the bestiary, artist Angelo Zanella presents this new collection, in which there will be 12 oil on canvas works and a new subject: racing cars. Again, Angelo Zanella abandons colour in favour of greyscale, black and white, achieving great scenic impact. In these works, in which cars speed by, you can appreciate all the dynamism of the moment: the subject in the foreground is depicted in detail, while the background is rendered by quick, free brushstrokes.

But why racing cars?

As the artist himself says in Dario Tonani’s interview for Ruoteclassiche magazine (May 2020), this passion was handed down to him by his grandfather: ” He was a bersagliere during the Great War and it’s as if he had speed running through his veins. He knew a lot about mechanics and often had his hands in the engines, especially those of the large cargo vehicles. And, indeed, it is his grandfather who tells him about the incredible feats of the drivers in their racing cars: from Alfa Romeos to Maseratis to the German Silver Arrows. And for Zanella they become true heroes behind the wheel, brave men who race at full speed, like the one he considers the greatest of them all: Tazio Nuvolari. Like a poet, Angelo Zanella pays homage to the feats of drivers of the past, indelibly fixing on canvas some extraordinary and adrenaline-fuelled moments of motor racing. But, at the same time, he takes us into a more intimate and personal dimension: he relives and shares with us those moments of his childhood.

ANGELO ZANELLA was born in Lovere (BG) in 1960. He graduated from the Brera Academy in Milan in 1983, where his meeting with a master like Beppe Devalle was pivotal. He learnt from him that the secret of an artist lies in the ability to observe things and the world from multiple perspectives, never settling for a single point of view. After finishing his studies, Zanella began to present and show his works to Italian and foreign galleries.
